Can Reflexology really make period pain more bearable?
We have come a long way, from living of the land to funky city apartments and instead of having to hunt and gather our food, we just grab it of the supermarket shelves. No longer do we have to worry about food going off, thanks to preservatives we can now keep food for weeks, sometimes years. But is this all such a good idea? More research is becoming available that modern day life might not be as good as it seems and we long to go back to basics: eating whole foods, living a more peaceful life and incorporating natural ways to let our body heal itself.
As hunter-gatherers, our feet were being massaged by the sand of the beach and the grass we walked on. Unfortunately the concrete we walk on today is not being kind to us, add to that the shoes we trap our feet in, day in day out. Our feet are deprived of tactile experiences and natural massaging techniques. Reflexology aims to achieve the same effect as walking barefoot, by massaging zones that correspond to areas in your body. This initiates the body’s natural ability to heal itself.
Reflexology can be used as a household method to relieve aches and pains and induces a general feeling of wellbeing. So sleeping problems, toothaches and yes, period pains can be eased by Reflexology techniques. Reflexology can be done on the feet, but also on the hands, face and ears. Like we used to walk barefoot every day, a daily Reflexology session would immensely improve your wellbeing.
