Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the leading cause of death in Australia and New Zealand. Here are some tips to some of the simplest ways to maintain healthy blood pressure, naturally:
•Increase dietary sources of omega-3 essential fatty acids (E.g. Salmon, Sardines and flaxseed oil
•Incorporate regular stress management techniques such as yoga and meditation to regulate sympathetic nervous system activity
•Increase intake of fresh fruit and vegetables, which are rich sources of essential nutrients (such as potassium and magnesium), phytonutrients and antioxidants. Minimise intake of refined foods and caffeine to minimise insulin resistance.
•Cease smoking and reduce dietary saturated fat intake for overall cardiovascular health
•Ensure regular aerobic exercise to your ability
