50 Shades of Happiness

OK, I have to say I have now read all 3 books and suprisingly found them an amusing read (i.e. they are one of those books that makes you laugh out loud in public and everyone stares at you). The stories got me thinking….whilst we may not all have a “Christian Grey” in our lives showering us with R8 cars, designer clothing, gourmet food and other playful ‘things’, with Father’s Day coming up on Sunday 2nd September, I thought I’d encourage us all to get our heads (temporarily) out of those books and turn “50 Shades of Grey” into 50 Shades of Happiness for you and the father of your children.
Some interesting Happiness facts (we don’t have 50 listed here but I am sure you can make up some of your own) – courtesy of Metagenics Dec/Jan 12 update:
1) It’s not just a genetic thing. Studies show that 50% of individual differences in happiness are determined by genes, 10% by life circumstances and 40% by our intentional activities. Maybe Christian and Ana had something on this one….
2) Rich people aren’t as happy as we’d expect. The richest Americans (i.e. those earning more than 10 million dollars annually), report levels of personal happiness only slightly greater than the office staff and blue-collar workers they employ. Sure, having the amount of money that Christian Grey has can make things a hell of a lot easier but as the story goes, what is all of that when you don’t have love?
3) Happy people think they’re better looking than they are. Happier people rate themselves as more attractive than do their less happy peers. So, fake it until you make it! Put on your nice longeire that you only wear on special occassions or go out and buy some (The likes of Grey prefer satin or silk)…surprise your man and make his Father’s Day!
4) Hugs make people happier. Students at Penn Sate Univeristy, who were instructed to give or receive a minimum of five hugs per day over the course of four weeks, became much happier. As in the books, don’t over-think things, happiness could be as simple as a hug or smile to your loved one.
